Sixty years for a mainland Australia wine producer is not uncommon, but for a Tasmanian vineyard it’s impressive. Moorilla’s first vines were planted by founder Claudio Alcorso in 1958 on the Hobart property where MONA now stands and recently celebrated its 60th vintage.
In true MONA fashion, the music was loud, the food lavish and the wine – including the stunning re-released 50th Anniversary 2012 Cloth Label Riesling – flowing. David Walsh, who purchased the site in 1995, reminisced. “I bought Moorilla on a whim, and that whim came to define me.”
