Never did three simple words sound so sweet: Truffle. Hill. And Wines. While punters will need little convincing, this secluded site is an enchanting realm where grace and gastronomy rapturously unite. Many looked on in mild amusement when the operation started in 1997, but Truffle Hill has since emerged as the country’s largest single producer of these black diamonds – accounting for well over 50 per cent of the nation’s annual harvest, prized the world over. The cellar door features a fine selection of wines and premium culinary offerings including fresh truffles and truffle-based products, plus offers in-season truffle hunts in winter. Winemaker Mark Aitken (who also owns and runs nearby Woodgate Wines, another spot well worth a visit) has fashioned an array of bold and complementary wines that sing of the region, including decadently aromatic riesling, chardonnay and pinot noir, which all nod to the region’s cool climate.
