Orange is thriving, with eating and drinking venues back in full swing. Accommodation has been boosted by the new Quest Apartments and the wonderful retro Oriana Motel complete with its pool bar and swanky Bela Vista Bar. More upmarket is the Byng Street Boutique Hotel. Charred offers sophisticated food and an award-winning wine list while Birdie Noshery & Drinking Est says it all. The Split Milk ice-creamery is next door. Head to Millthorpe for the delights of Tonic Restaurant and the trio of in-town cellar doors. If time is short, visit Ferment, which acts as the cellar door for a number of local winemakers.  Peter Bourne

The Swift family have taken a big gamble and it’s paid off. The gamble was to buy a second property at Nashdale. The main vineyard and winery is near Molong, too far to garner a strong cellar door following. In 2018 the Millwood Vineyard was planted on the cool Nashdale site with the cellar door taking residence in a huddle of corrugated sheds in 2020. Now there’s a new, architecturally inspired building – all polished concrete and floor-to-ceiling glass with a fabulous view of vines and bucolic countryside. It’s not only the cellar door but home to a new venture, Printhie Dining. Parisian expatriate Johann Calchera manages the facility with Melburnian Jack Brown rattling the pans. Tastings are every day with Printhie Dining open for lunch Wednesday to Sunday.
