It was heartening to receive a great response to the Gourmet Traveller WINE/Wine Communicators of Australia New Wine Writer Award, with entries coming from around the country. The judges – Huon Hooke, Angie Bradbury and GT WINE editor Judy Sarris – all commented on the pleasing standard of the entries. The finalists for this year’s award were advertising art director and writer Guy Pack from Brisbane who enjoyed trying his hand at long form writing with his evocative piece The Lure of Languedoc. Stuart Robinson, also from Queensland, has had an online presence through his website thevinsomniac.com since 2010. He shares his recently developed fondness for viognier in his piece Just Say Vee-On-Yay.
Our winner this year is Kirsty Petrides who works in corporate communications in WA. Her Greek heritage means that she is obsessed with food and drinks, and is currently travelling on a year-long sabbatical, visiting some of the great winemaking countries of the world, including Greece where she found inspiration for her story Bubble and Greek.
