Penfolds has added a new wine to its portfolio with the release of the Penfolds g4 (A$3,500). The wine is created from four vintages of the iconic Grange (2002, 2004, 2008 and 2016) to produce a new take on the flagship wine that combines history and innovation with the use of multi-vintage blending.
“These four Grange vintages are amongst our favourites of the last two decades,” says winemaker Peter Gago. “All are so different – in every sense, not just climatically. The synergistic blending of these vintages worked perfectly from a quality, structural and style perspective.”
The Penfolds g4 follows the successful launch of the Penfolds g3 in 2017, which similarly combined the 2008, 2012 and 2014 vintages of Grange. The announcement also comes with the release of The Penfolds Collection 2020, which features 17 new vintages for the portfolio. Wines in the collection include the 2016 Grange (A$950) and 2018 Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon (A$650).
