Southern Highlands

Despite its relative youth in the context of wine production, the Southern Highlands show an increasing confidence and maturity with every vintage. Planted originally to traditional cool-climate varieties, such as riesling and pinot noir, there are more interesting grapes and blends being successfully experimented with, such as gewürztraminer, grüner veltliner and pinot blanc. Increasing food and wine tourism is bringing greater investment in quality cellar doors and continuing the growth of the closest wine region to Australia’s largest city.

While Tertini has consistently been one of the best cellar doors to visit in this region, the addition of wines from their newest vineyards in Tasmania gives an added dimension to the offering.

Tertini has always been about the wine. No gimmicks, no sideshows – just passionate staff showcasing the wares in a cosy, relaxed space. This is a cellar door for the wine enthusiast to take in a snapshot of the region.

There is an extensive range of wines available to taste, from the more traditional rieslings (dry and off-dry), chardonnays and pinot noirs to the more obscure (but regionally appropriate) arneis, lagrein and refosco.

You will find a very personal, individualised tasting experience without the pushy sales spiel. There’s even a tub of pears, sugar plums, pumpkins and other produce from the vineyard to occasionally help yourself to. BEN SHEPHARD
