King Valley

Not too long ago, King Valley was littered with fields of tobacco grown by intrepid Italian immigrants. Those same entrepreneurial Italians and their diligent descendants dress the valley with vineyards – prosecco, mostly, alongside other excellent examples of Italian varietals such as sangiovese and nebbiolo.

Otto Dal Zotto was the first vigneron to plant prosecco beside the banks of the King River, at the turn of the 21st century. Twenty years later, this Australian prosecco is the contrarian’s Champagne: joyous, cheerful and fun.

A visit to Dal Zotto allows fans of fizz to go beyond the benchmark and taste other examples of prosecco, including special vintage releases, like Pucino, L’Immigrante, and the utterly delicious Col Fondo Prosecco. The still wines are delicious too.

Find your favourite fizz and stay for lunch at the trattoria next door. Enjoy Italian-inspired plates of antipasto, handmade pasta, and salads made from fresh ingredients grown in the nearby garden by Otto’s wife, Elena. DANIEL HONAN
