Hunter Valley

Beneath the flank of the ancient Brokenback escarpment lies the birthplace of fine Australian wine. The valley is a patchwork of vineyards on sandy loam and red clay. While its proximity to Sydney ensures plentiful tourists, it’s the exceptional wines of provenance and place that make it so special and unique.

Lake’s Folly is the kind of winery that is conjured in the mind’s eye whenever a trip to wine country is suggested. Each of their wines comes from this special place, estate-grown for the past 57 years.

It continues to defy the odds, the trends, and the advice of time by producing some of the most remarkable wines.

Winemakers Rod Kempe and Peter Payard, and vineyard manager Jason Locke have been the custodians of the vineyards for nearly two decades, producing chardonnays of great elegance and cabernets of paradoxical charm.

Time your visit well to avoid disappointment as the ‘sold out’ sign is often hung between January and April. DANIEL HONAN
